Seriously, I recall when I had first moved to Chicago back in '88, my first boyfriend - a beautiful mocha guy who'd just made a move back home to Chicago from LA - used to tell me, "LJ's is great, cuz you're always the hottest thing in the bar..." It's location right on Halsted, riding on one end of the sort of whirling gay axis in Chicago, guarantees it sees its share of all sorts - what do you have to lose, after all? No cover, late hours, cheap drinks, good view of the streetlife, interesting videos, jukebox. I've always found it to be a good place to waste time until something more interesting happens or until I've made up my mind about what I want to do next. Not for the faint of heart, perhaps.
