From CDG a J ticket is 3 to 4 times more expensive compared with the pass, with about the same miles credited.
Regarding flexibility, you are right. If the upgrade request goes through, flexibility is dead.

I just checked. CDG-ATH business class June 20th - July 20th is 876€ return.
8 flights are 656€ / 744€ / 840€
IMO the Aegean Pass remains an excellent deal, considering that out of 8 flights I would certainly be able to upgrade 4 with coupons.
