The line to see an agent was quite long. Any ideas why I might have needed to see an agent? There was no obvious reason after I did finally see the agent as to why I was redirected there. I was travelling with a US passport.
Tickets in Basic despite being a PorterClassic still need to see a gate agent, because carry-on bags are not allowed. And they use this as a policing method. My hunch is that even if you add a checked bag it does not bypass this requirement.
If it's not bag check, then it's probably doc check on their system being silly.
Having said that, I flew Porter for the first time this week. It is a very mixed experience.
Agents in YOW were lovely and went above and beyond. Agents at YVR were absolutely awful: even worse than Flair.
Drinks were served in paper cups in E295s in Classic, whereas on the Dash-8s everyone was given a glass cup.
The IT is beyond abysmal, as well as their whole back-end system.
The cold meals were also overpriced and terrible.
The free wifi, drinks, and snacks are spectacular though. The crew are mediocre: in my experience, they are transactional and quiet. I had one flight, however, where one crew kept announcing over the PA loudly (over 5 announcements) about people needing to wait for the lavatories in front of the galley curtain "for safety reasons".
