We have an Air Canada Aeroplan reward flight booked in early October from Halifax to Montreal, and the AC labour dispute adds an element of uncertainty. For us, it’s absolutely essential that we get to Montreal on that day.
So I was thinking of booking a Porter flight on their expensive top tier which is supposed to be fully refundable — and cancelling it if the AC flight works out.
I’m fully aware that it’s highly unlikely that if AC pilots do actually walk out, it would drag on into October. But the Porter flight would be a kind of insurance for that unlikely event. If AC were to stop its domestic flights, suddenly seats on rival carriers and even trains would quickly get booked out or prices would go through the roof.
So are there any local reports of Porter being slow or reluctant to issue refunds?
Yes. I've read data points about fully refundable tickets by Porter automatically refunding into a flight credit, and that you have to reach out to customer service/supervisor to have it refunded properly. Not very consumer-friendly, and takes a significant amount of time on the phone.
