For example— We won’t be able to drive across the border, because the rest of us only have Global Entry and won’t qualify to apply for Nexus for another year (3 year minimum residence rule). With the processing times and our remaining year of residency to tick down, I’m assuming that could be at least 1.5 - 2 years from now before the rest of us get it.

Whereas with GE, my son was conditionally approved and then approved without any interview, possibly because his mum and dad already had it.

Just curious if it’s likely to help or hinder the application either way.
I'd rather do one application than getting both, so it boils down to what has the most benefit to living in Canada which is Nexus not GE. I don't know how the US looks as getting GE then applying for Nexus but the let scrutiny the better, IMO. Given how long Nexus waits are, it might end up roughly the same time as new Nexus application vs your Nexus with GE already in a year. Nexus renewal is less than one month for approval (I'm on my fourth card at as a Canuck with US PR), so it might be similar with GE since you've already been approved for Trusted Travel programs.
