We're mostly interested in driving around/sightseeing. Is the Ritz in a decent location for that? Some folks mention that there's nothing nearby, have to drive 15 minutes for restaurants? Sheraton appears gone (or not bookable for our dates), but there are a bunch of mediocre-looking Iberostar (IHG) and Dreams/Alua properties (Hyatt), and a 65sqm junior suite at (the almost worryingly well-reviewed) Royal Hideaway Corales Beach can be booked for $140 worth of Choice points, about a third of the Ritz. We'd likely pick a good location over luxury, but don't want to be in all-inclusive hell, fwiw.
Finally, people mention "Villas" upthread -- I assume this refers to what appears to be calles "Club Retreat" now?
This place and especially the Villas are great to stay during winter time. That said, It is bad for sightseeing, exploring or pretty much anything that isn‘t connected with being at the hotel. With your agenda I suggest looking elsewhere.. Perhaps Santa Cruz, they have some great non beach related hotels to stay and better access to the island.
