Given that it has now been a whole week since SAS has made the move to SkyTeam, I was wondering if some people here have already reached any first conclusions on the move.
There have already been many experience reports over in
SAS and Other SkyTeam Airlines about the (sometimes lack) of integration and recognition of EuroBonus on other SkyTeam airlines and much has already been discussed and speculated in this thread
SAS to leave Star Alliance and join SkyTeam [eff. 01 Sep 2024] when the move was announced. However, given that the move has now actually happened, I am wondering if people have come to more broad and general conclusions yet, especially given the recent experiences and developments.
I personally am quite unhappy, but this should come as no surprise to some of you.

I just looked at booking a domestic US flight and thought of giving Delta a chance, until I realised I wouldn't earn any miles or points, I wouldn't get lounge access with EBD/STE+ and the ticket would be more expensive (ca. 25%) than on their competitors. Essentially I in that moment I felt that the alliance, at least to me, is even more useless than I had first anticipated, especially in terms of coverage and value (benefits & points) for money.
The change of the EuroBonus program as outlined in
Changes to Eurobonus from 01.09.2024 - Level and Bonus Points have been unforeseen by me, but did not come wholly unexpected. As with the transition as a whole, this once again hit me disproportionately, as the 25% boosted for SAS flights is no more, and earning points with partner airlines (of which none are really relevant to me) have become mediocre at best.
Same can be said in terms of award availability, which did really disappoint me. When looking for any flights to destinations I would be interested in, which to be fair are usually *A territory, for example ZRH-BOS, I wasn't able to find a single Business Class ticket for later in the year, where there used to be several available with *A.
One of my greatest fears, the reduction of the lounge footprint in Europe has been somewhat alleviated, as outlined int he following thread
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/sas-...t-onwards.html. And about that I am quite happy, especially the access to the SWISS Alpine Lounge in ZRH for EBG+. Another upside is the instant point crediting when taking a flight!
As with many things, only time will tell. However, apart from my flights on SAS to Scandinavia and NA and perhaps the occasional trip on a SkyTeam partner in Europe (if they are the best and most convenient option), I don't see me going out of my way to fly them anymore.
I will ensure to retain my EBG to achieve my lifetime status, however, I probably won't go out of my way to retain EBD. It has yet to be seen how the influx of new status members in the EuroBonus program will affect things, if at all. The quite generous challenge extended to some EBG to achieve EBD with a small number of flights, has ticked me off a little, as no comparable offer was made to existing EBDs for retention purposes or to ease the transition. It really does seem that EuroBonus is trying to boast its numbers for some reason and is really focused on getting new status members in, but not as much in retaining existing ones.
Anyway, what are your conclusions?
