Medication has to be carried on person?
My husband travelled on a BA flight on Friday. He was travelling with hand luggage only and this contained his medication (pre-filled syringes plus a disposables bin).
He was approached at the gate and asked to check in his hand luggage as the flight was full. He explained he wanted to keep his hand luggage with him due to his medication and was told that the rule is that medication has to be carried on the person & not in hand luggage. The member of staff said he would carry on asking other people for their hand luggage but may have to come back to my husband if necessary.
He did come back to him 20 minutes later and asked again. Again, my husband (politely) resisted. My husband produced the letter from his neurologist (he always carries this with him when travelling) confirming his medication needs and the BA member of staff allowed him to take his luggage on board ‘this time’ but told him he must carry his medication on his person on future flights. I wasn’t aware this was a rule - can anyone here confirm that?
The disposables bin is not strictly medication but it is required for the spent syringes and whilst it’s a travel bin it is still too bulky to put in a pocket!
Edit: flight was from Heathrow T5 to Naples
