Thanks both, "mystery" solved: I was quoted £231.29 which is exactly £299.59 less those US/XF non refundable taxes less £30 service fee.

In any case, as suggested, I'll do some research for a new destination/date in a similar fare bucket as obviously more convenient than this minor refund.
