LGW-GLA morning flight - operated by LHR mainline crew & aircraft, but catered by Newrest @ LGW as it's an M (reverse "W") flight that overnights in GLA, going to LGW and back before returning to LHR.
No menus but it was a choice of coronation chicken salad or a nondescript vegetarian alternative. The croutons were completely limp - disappointing given the trays would have only been loaded an hour earlier.
Service was below average. Galley FM was on full volume during the 40 mins delay on the ground with no sign of any attempt to distribute menus or water, welcome pax or help with luggage.
Seemingly only 2 crew for 8 full rows of CE so they were stretched but even so, service was slow. For some reason they decided to hand run it - hardly a great idea with that sort of crew to pax ratio on a short domestic flight. The junior chap suddenly realised he'd forgot to serve me, when returning to the galley after row 4.
My litmus test for a good crew is how soon a second drinks order is taken and these certainly did not impress. Nothing until after the "20 mins to landing" call, and my request was misinterpreted (got it in a mug rather than a cup), creating more work for the crew.
Nothing disastrous, I did ultimately get the food and drinks I wanted, but they certainly didn't deliver the great experience I've had in the past.
