In OP’s favor, now is the start of shoulder/low season, so upgrades might be easier to come by. But I agree with the feedback that if the upgrade matters, then pay for it or otherwise confirm it in advance.
Yep, that’s what I decided to do. Just pay for the upgrade to get what I wanted.
