Try to check-in online on the Thai Airways website to secure two seats. If fails it can be resolved at the gate at LHR or as a last resort onboard. Rest assured that you will be seated together on the flight to BKK.

As stated above the direct TG service to BKK is def. not a bad rebooking choice; I would have accepted it without much thinking and you arrive BKK with minimal delay.
