Another thing to note that I don't think anyone has previously mentioned - the Garden Suites (set back a bit from the beach vs the Beachfront Suites) apparently are getting newly-constructed private pools during this off season. If I had known this when booking I probably would have chosen one instead of the Beachfront Suite. Chose Beachfront because it seemed to be one category higher than Garden (cash rate was higher), and was still bookable with a Standard Reward. Had been hoping that a cash upgrade from Beachfront to Hillside would be reasonable but based on experience of others above it sounds like it may not be
Last thing - trying to extend stay by 1 day with a certificate; the room is available per se on the property's direct booking site, but not through Hilton, possibly bc of a 3-night minimum. Property has been trying to help but it's a lot to coordinate property doing something in their system to release inventory while on a 3-way call with Diamond Desk to have them then book it and so far hasn't worked out...
First SLH/Hilton availability was in mid-Oct, so no one was able to stay before they closed for renovations. They moved back their opening date to November 1, so guests booked during that time period had to be cancelled. It's been quite the mess...
I also saw that blurb (maybe on SLH) about the private pools at the Garden Suites. I was booked into a garden suite and asked reservations if the hillside suites are the only ones with pools (2025 stay now) and they said yes. So I'm not really sure what to think? My guess is that the pool wouldn't be as private as the hillside, but if you can get it for points, I would take that over the oceanfront, personally.
I also have been unsuccessful with using a single cert to extend an existing booking (spouse cert) and would not recommend anyone try this route as it is exhausting.
