Midtown Conrad. Close to the Rockefeller Center tree, and 10-15 minute cab to Penn Station. Runner up would be the close by main Hilton. You don't want to stay near Penn Station, the area is a but seedy.
I stayed in the fashion district Hilton years ago, I don't remember anything special (good or bad) about the immediate neighborhood. Is that the hilton you are referring to, or a different one?
