Domestic DL first will only count 6XP per segment towards Flying Blue. It requires a lot of flights to qualify (17 flights for silver; then +30 flights for gold; then +50 flights for plat) status if one mainly flies DL within the states.

Changing to UA/AA will mostly depend on whether they fit your itineraries and whether they fly to the places you need to go.
