Need advice on changing an award ticket (regarding the expiration date of the ticket)
I made a KE award booking in March 2024. It is a one-way ICN-->USA (departing on Sept 2024).
Later in Aug 2024, I changed the booking and added a segment so the route became ASIA-->ICN-->USA (not important, but note: no additional mileage needed, just additional tax collected). In essence, the ticket was reissued, inheriting the validity from the original ticket, which is March 2025 (a year from the original booking date).
Unfortunately, I now need to change it again. This time no routing change, but I need to change it to April 2025. When I tried to change online, I realized that the system would not let me search any dates beyond the validity of the ticket (i.e., March 2025).
I suppose I have a few options.
(1) refund the ticket and get the miles back, so that I can freely book again. But the catch is that I don't have additional KE miles, whereas the refund requires 3000 miles penalty. I reside in USA and don't have a way to acquire KE miles any more (now that Marriott transfer to KE is terminated)...
or,
(2) contact KE and make a point that the validity of the current ticket should be a year from the re-issue, which is Aug 2025 (vs. March 2025), so that I should be allowed to change the dates to beyond March 2025.

Any better resolution? Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.
