Perhaps there's a misunderstanding. Perhaps a new front desk employee doesn't understand the difference between 1,000 points as a Welcome Gift choice and Guaranteed Lounge Access (for five brands), which has documented alternatives when there's no lounge or it's closed.
Guests are bound by the Terms & Conditions. Hotels are also bound by the Terms & Conditions. It's a legal document.
But if this is really the case, then the General Manager at the Renaissance Honolulu Hotel is going rogue, defying the Marriott Rewards Loyalty Program Terms & Conditions, damaging the integrity and reputation of the Marriott Bonvoy program, and driving away future business -- not only for this hotel, but also for other hotels of Marriott's brands worldwide. Marriott needs get this situation corrected. Perhaps a
Marriott Bonvoy Lurker can look into this.
Renaissance Honolulu Hotel & Spa is NOT one of the four hotels currently listed in the Marriott Rewards Loyalty Program Terms & Conditions that would otherwise be required to offer a choice of daily continental breakfast for member + 1 or 750 points, but that "do not provide free continental breakfast in the hotel restaurant in the event the Lounge is closed but do offer 1,000 Points in lieu of breakfast" (through December 31, 2024).
If not offered this guaranteed benefit, a Platinum Elite (or above) member is due $100 U.S. compensation from the hotel for the failure to be offered the benefit -- and should still get daily breakfast (at least continental breakfast) for member + 1.
