Just finished my stay (my first ever stay at a Hyatt Unbound property) and am impressed! I still give an edge to the HR Mainz for reasons I'll explain later but if you want a luxury boutique experience in Mainz, then look no further. It's funny that Hyatt has cornered the market in Mainz with THREE properties now. I for one am glad to see them developing around the Frankfurt area, especially with the upcoming Kennedy 89 property too.

There is one key advantage of the Brunfels imo- individually controlled a/c in each room and the air conditioning is strong! Oddly the lobby, much like the HR's lobby, is not air conditioned. What is it with German hotel lobbies not being air conditioned? lol.

The location of the Hyatt Unbound property is close to the Mainz Hbf, although it is roughly equidistant to the Mainz Cathedral and Gutenberg as the HR. Uber drivers may have a hard time finding the Brunfels because of a number of closed local streets- ask them to use Google Maps instead.

Upon entering the Brunfels, you'll notice its green palette and numerous plants- homage to its namesake botanist, Otto Brunfels. I like that they chose a different personage than Gutenberg.

There is a gym on the ground floor.

A word of caution about the elevators- the sensors didn't seem quick enough to detect an arm inserted between its doors so I would be cautious sticking an appendage in there.
