Au contraire, GS benefits are great, but if you can spend yourself to Pre-boarding, PlusPoints, free CPU upgrades, and the 1K hotline, I’d say that is a pretty good product. Life begins at 1K… (That is given that you spend that much on credit cards anyway. Nobody would suggest that just spending more on credit cards is the way to happiness.)
I don't think pre-boarding is worth hundreds of thousands of points on a more valuable currency. The PlusPoints can be good if you can use them but PZ space is much harder to find in advance on good routes these days. I think it is OK if you travel to China and live close to the west coast. GS Plus Points are far more useful because they can be used on award tickets and clear into PN so you save even more miles and get upgrades much more often. But anyway it is not possible to earn GS through credit card spending whereas it is possible through 1K. That itself shows how United thinks about these two statuses. Anyway there are many other threads of people complaining about the decline of 1K. I don't think we need another thread for it.
