It is believed that agents think Gold are more able to weather problems with Avios\cash compensation rather than being upgraded, so it makes it less likely rather than more.
But the actual algorithms used by back office upgrades and the protocols used by gate agents are not public.
Never any automatic upgrades based on status like other airlines.
