I ended up being so busy I accidentally ran the clock out on prepurchasing a seat, so had to take my chances.
I checked in the moment online check-in opened and flew in
29D. Was actually one of the options I'd been eyeing, so I got lucky, especially since the seat next to me was empty.
(FTL status flying on a cheap economy ticket booked via SQ, so I doubt my minimal status did much in terms of the seat choice.)
Screen + table were both in the seat back - it's only the front row of that economy section where they're in the armrest. Extra leg room was notable compared to regular economy - I'm admittedly very short, but I had a bag under the seat in front and still plenty of space for my feet. Plus I felt like the touchscreen was actually a tad too much of a stretch for comfort - I wasn't using it much so didn't care but I think a short-armed gamer would be annoyed! Didn't test the recline since I prefer to sit pretty upright and had the next seat free anyway. But the person in front didn't recline either, so I guess they also didn't see a need.
Blanket was nicer than on my connecting eco SQ flight. So was breakfast, actually.
Was a very decent economy experience, all in all. Limited traffic despite being on the aisle (there just aren't that many people who need to go past); total avoidance of toilet queues or galley noises; and *much* less ambient plane noise than in my previous trip on that route in a premium eco exit row.
Oh, and very decent range of snacks laid out in the galley - worth going for a look.
Would definitely consider paying the seat fee next time for the same or a similar seat, and would do that over Premium Economy under ordinary circumstances.
(Front row of that middle eco section gives you *lots* of leg room - would definitely be worth it for a taller person, but as a shortie who dislikes armrest tables and screens it wouldn't be worth the money for me.)
Hope you have a good trip!
