I just finished a 2-day stay at the CAA and it was great. I enjoyed the proximity to the park and surrounding areas, although it was a little noisy in the streets (cars revving their engines, honking, screaming, etc).
Check-in: Received the check in notification on the app around 8am local time and surprisingly, I was upgraded to the Junior Suite King with Millennium Park View. I checked into the front desk around 10am to store my luggage and the room was ready around 1pm. The FDA explained the breakfast situation and late checkout, but didn't really explain anything else (i.e. amenities, offerings, etc). They offered to help bring the luggage up which was very helpful and the service was great.
Room: As mentioned above, I was upgraded to the Junior Suite King with Millennium Park View. I thought the view was going to be better, but I was in one of the rooms that had an obstruction (part of the architecture of the building). I still enjoyed the space. When I got into my room, one of the housekeepers knocked and wanted to check whether the previous guest used any of the minibar items, which is a first for me. The water pressure was great and I enjoyed the bathroom design. The bed was really soft and comfortable and one of the best Hyatt beds I've slept in. There was a desk and coffee table with a long couch that was comfortable.
Food: I ordered in room dining for both of my days here and it was fantastic - one morning it was eggs Benedict and the other was a bagel sandwich (both with OJ). When placing the in-room dining service, the amount totaled about $50 for each day with services charges, delivery fees, taxes, and tip. I'm not sure how it was calculated on my room charges, but it was around $1.40 one morning and $7 the other. The room charges were labeled as "services charges." I mentioned this to the front desk and it was removed. There was also a retrieval remote where if you pressed it, it would alert the room service folks to come pick it up (I think this is better than having to call every time to have them pick up the dishes).
Property: I enjoyed the location of this property along with what it provided such as Cindy's Rooftop, Shake Shack, concierge, and a nice lobby space which was heavily used during my time there. I wish I had stayed on property longer to take a tour of the historic building, but I was too busy enjoying myself in Chicago. As mentioned above, this place is located right across the street from Millennium Park, so there tends to be a lot of traffic (foot and vehicle). I lost track of how many times I've heard cars honking, revving their engines, and people screaming during my 2 day stay here.
Service: When I checked in, the FDA seemed a bit too casual, which eventually led to them forgetting to tell me certain benefits I have at the property and what offerings they had (i.e. didn't mention the bubbles (champagne?) event in the game room). The person who brought up my luggage was great, because they explained how the room worked (where the light switches were), offered nearby recommendations, adjusted room temp, etc. I went to Cindy's for one night and the place is amazing, but I thought the service was lackluster there too because the server only approached us twice (to order the food and pay the check). During check-out, the FDA seemed new because they didn't know if I was eligible to have my destination fee or service charge wiped from my folio. This led to the supervisor on duty telling them how to waive it and shifting the costs, etc. I think I waited a least 15-20 minutes extra while they figured out how to waive everything.
All in all, I would stay here again. I'll try to upload photos from my stay here when I have the time.
