I'm a little confused with the mention of having a barcode on the "booking". Where precisely is this 2D barcode supposed to show up? On the boarding pass? Or on the booking information print-out / itinerary from the airline, or travel agency -- the email one might get right after booking a flight??
I'm sure all of us have experienced the common inability to check in online for international departures from India. Most times I have been unable to get a boarding pass before arriving at the airport, and have been let in by the CISF only on showing my itinerary from the company travel agency. That itinerary has never (so far) showed any kind of bar code, it's just been a vanilla listing of the flight details (which incidentally also makes it easy to replicate and so is technically useless as a security measure). I wonder if this will be a new headache to deal with. Or is there some way to get this Amadeus barcode in some other way, perhaps airlines will start making it available on their "manage booking" pages??
tomcat007, you mentioned LH sent the barcode to you - could you please elaborate, was that a separate email / text from LH some time before your departure, was it part of the online check-in process, or was it on the boarding pass... ?
I presume if one does manage to check in online (or get the "check-in confirmation, but this is not a boarding pass" message from the airline) then that QR code / bar code will suffice, or is this new directive literally requiring an additional barcode to be shown in addition to the boarding pass?
I have my next trip to India planned in a month or so. I hope I can hunt for and find this barcode by then!
