My guess (which is worth precisely what you are paying for it) is that moving to assigned seating, with some seats having a cost, and charging something for checked bags, which EM is also apparently suggesting, would improve WN's financial performance.

Whether a particular individual likes it or not is a different question. For example, I do not like open seating, so for me it would be an improvement, and a reason to fly WN more often. And with respect to checked bag fees, I don't check bags often and if I do, it would just be a part of the all-in cost, which I could compare to other alternatives, along with issues such as the availability of a premium cabin, a club, flight times, departure and arrival airports, nonstop vs connection, etc. So I don't care too much. But what some particular individual thinks about these proposals is a different question from whether they would, if implemented, improve WN's financial performance. And on that question, I think EM has right.
