It seems I spoke to soon. The GoI has implemented this since July 31. My booking had the 2D bardocde on it last weekend but of course no one bothered to scan it. I noticed that the CISF scanned the online boarding pass of a pax in the other line to check if its real. But I had assumed it applied to boarding passes only.

2D Barcode India Update

September 2, 2024
Keyword(s): ADTDTravelers must now present 2D barcodes at Indian airportsIn accordance with the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Digi Yatra initiative by the Government of India, travelers must now present 2D barcodes at Indian airports.

This rule applies to all domestic and international flights departing from India and is effective immediately from July 31.

How will it be implemented?

The Amadeus Dynamic Travel Documents (ADTD) Itinerary (ITI) and e-ticket receipt (ITR) will contain the required 2D barcode globally for all itineraries starting from September 20th, 2024 (activation date). Please note that this barcode will only be available on ADTD graphical documents.

What do you need to do?

- Inform your customers to ensure they are prepared for travel.

- For bookings made before the activation date, documents must be reissued to include the 2D barcode.
