Again, I feel fortunate that my ticket was issued by UA and when LH refused to help all the way, I was able to track down some UA staff who completed the process.

.Yes it is good to read on flyertalk who should have helped you, so we all learn, but in the airport stressed and missing an important flight/event, that really does not help at all if the airline won't acknowledge responsibility.
