Airline pricing is very dynamic, price changes are very frequent. One advantage of the US airlines is that there is now no cancellation fee. I have frequently cancelled and rebooked to take advantage of a better price. It also a good idea to set price alerts on Google Flights and/or Skyscanner. These will alert you if a better price becomes available.
