Maybe easier to ask for cancel/refund according to ticket rules and book a new ticket? In particular if you have had a schedule change (which has not been accepted) you might be able to get a full refund.
This was my number one preference but it’s is a non-refundable fare. I would qualify for the free cancellation for death of family but no death certificate yet (flight in 2 days) and also I would not feel comfortable asking her sisters for it. Incredibly in the 8 months since it was booked there has not been a single schedule change which I can use to my advantage! So I will have to stick with a change.
