In fairness, the IHG and ALL suite upgrades are quite different animals.

IHG'a "confirmable suite upgrades" can be extremely valuable, but you won't know until 14 days before your trip when you call IHG. You might be out of luck, or your hotel might only give you a "premium room" for your "suite upgrade".

My first batch of IHG CSUs expired unused, despite five or six attempts to apply them. Reports suggest things have improved in recent months, so I'll see whether I have better luck going forward.

Accor's "suite night upgrades" can be applied at the time of booking and can get you into better rooms than an "entry-level suite". But you will indeed need one per night.

Which benefit is easier to earn will depend on where you stay: racking up nights will get you more "milestone rewards" from IHG, whereas ALL counts spend and gives you an additional SNU for every 1,600 EUR after reaching Platinum on spend.
