That's why, even though I've qualified for the senior discount for several years, I can't remember ever booking it, because I always had another discount which was as good or better, at the hotels where I've looked at the Senior Rate discount.
In our experiences of ALL revenue bookings, the senior rate beats the member rate and the AMEX rate 100% of the time. It is sometimes the same as the PREPAID rate but is cancellable with the same term as the regular rate.

There are times Senior Rate is not available but when it is available it is cheaper than any other eligible rates we could use, with the Full Cancellabke Benefit which is very important to us. We never bother to look at the Member Prepaid rate when the fully cancellable senior rate is the same but fully cancellable in virtually all pay stays we have booked.

The only drawback is the room choices. Though in all cases when an upgrade is very desirable, we are very lucky to always get it, sometimes to a very large upgrade. In the cases of the limited service properties where an upgrade is basically meaningless, then the limited options are just fine. Even in those situations we often got a better choice or rooms at check in when asked the FD nicely.
