So sorry if this has been already answered, I tried searching to no avail. Is there any limitations in using plus points to upgrade ANA flights if the member is not traveling.

My wife and I are debating if she should book ANA or UA. Given UA upgrades seem to rarely clear, I’m thinking maybe trying ANA. I know I can put the upgrade in for her if she’s on UA but not sure about ANA. 1K for reference as well.

Also thoughts on what is not likely to clear, UA or ANA. Route is IAH-NRT/HND.
