The thing is, when you turn left (head north up the beach), it's other resorts all the way up to the GH, and then the beach clubs of the landlocked Marriotts. Turning right/south, there's Geger Beach Cafe with great satay and cold, cheap beer about 300m from Kayuputi. Nusa Dua Beach Grill at the end of Geger, but pretty sure you have to take a cab there. More local and international options on Jl. Silgita, where Courtyard is, but also a cab ride. I actually prefer the offsite food options at this end of Nusa Dua to those adjacent to the Westin/Laguna which is a more pedestrian friendly zone, but given what you've described with your parents, I'd be inclined to agree you may want to consider Sanur.
