Uhm, kind of...the definition of 'perk' is 'an advantage or something extra' so I always saw it as a way to recognize or reward people for their loyalty as opposed to trying to stimulate demand.
AC doesn't know what I spend with other Carriers or how sticky I am to them so everything they do for me, one of their most loyal Customers, might just help keep me in the fold.
The main point of my post was that I found it sort of silly that the discount code was so restrictive.
