MBNA and Amex parted ways and the card was closed in July 2018.
was a great card . MBNA then grandfatherd the mbna emirates card holders into the MBNA cashback credit card with zero overseas fees ( MBNA horizon). The 0.5% cashback covers the visa fees and so great for use overseas and no annual fees... It's still working for me.
As far as I know this card is not open to new applications..
Best card to collect Emirates Skywards miles in the UK is probably the HSBC Premier World Elite Card - the earn rate is currently 1 mile per £1 of spend, but this is increasing to 1.5 miles in a few weeks time.
Amex have the Membership Rewards and Marriott cards which can be used, but the earn rate is closer to 0.67 miles per £1 of spend. Even with Marriott's 25% boost per 60k points converted, it's still not close to the HSBC earn rate.
