As somebody who flew this route plenty of times it was the best way to get to the UK from NZ. Transit was never an issue and being able to split things up by doing NZ6 if I wanted and to walk out and get some fresh air and enjoy In-n-Out really made the journey something I always looked forward to. The flight times were also perfect and totally eliminated any jet lag.

Travel is that you want it to be - and it seems if you want an experience to be miserable that's exactly what it will be...
