SIN-LHR
July 2024
A simple sparkling water as a pre-departure drink, which was served with warm nuts.
Although this flight has a late departure time of 23:20 and we had already eaten an earlier dinner in the excellent Qantas First lounge, given the length of this flight at 13+ hours, there was plenty of time to enjoy the service onboard too plus get a decent sleep. A very nice canapé selection was therefore served after takeoff, with a glass of Duval-Leroy.
To start, the pan fried vegetable dumplings were excellent.
It may have been slightly overdone, but the roasted herb crusted Chilean seabass (served with all of the sides) was otherwise decent.
I skipped dessert and concluded dinner with a peppermint tea, which was served with a couple of Lindt truffles.
7 hours later and it was time to join my now-awake fiancée at her seat for her dinner (and my second - or is that third? - dinner). Whilst the table is a little tight when set for two and the ottoman isn't the most comfortable of seats, buddy dining is a great feature of the A380 (and 777-200) First cabin. I will be sorry to see this feature go when the A380s are refurbished, although I'm making an assumption here that BA's new First seat will not allow for buddy dining, as is the case with the newer First seats on the 787-9, 787-10 and 777-300ER fleets.
The grilled king prawn wasn't as strong as my earlier dumplings.
The chicken satay was strong.
Given I'd skipped dessert earlier, I allowed myself to indulge in the (hot) chocolate fondant cake, which was fairly average.
A few hours later, breakfast commenced with the banana and honey smoothie. I remember when BA used to offer smoothies in Club World too, but these days they are confined to First.
Fresh seasonal fruit and strawberry chai oats (I would have preferred Bircher muesli).
The unimaginatively titled 'full breakfast' was the weakest dish of the flight, mainly due to the aneamic-looking bacon.
Despite that last dish, this was overall a great flight with BA, with some dishes (notably the dumplings and satay) standing out for all of the right reasons.
