Just to add a comment query. Say the gate number is not up before scheduled departure, presumably that means all bets are off in terms of being there 20 minutes before scheduled?

So where does the risk move back to after a gate number eventually goes up, a pax gets there say 25 minutes before actual departure but find the gate is now closed?
