Recently completed atstay at GSY. Having stayed previously at Hyatt Churchill, I have some comparison notes for those who find it helpful.
Overall, GSY is a very nice Hyatt option for London. I found the staff to be extremely friendly and it does feel like an elevated hotel experience with “5 star like” amenities. As a Globalist I was upgraded to a Premium King which was a nice corner location. For an upgraded room type (just below the official suite categories), it wasn’t huge but comfortable compared to make London hotel rooms. My room was adorned with a fireplace, corner location and a large bathroom with a window.
Beds are extremely comfortable with excellent bedding. Bathroom was a highlight for sure with a large shower and double vanity, automatic toilets and nice products.
Globalists receive complimentary mini bar access + morning breakfast which I found to be good.
If you’re having a hard time deciding between this hotel and the Hyatt here are a few comparison points:
-Location for GSY is definitely convenient, a mere 20 min walk from SoHo, 10m walk to Westminster area, Buckingham etc. I didn’t particularly care for the proximity to Trafalgar as it’s very touristy but you can quickly escape that. Hyatt Churchill is definitely in a more high end area with close proximity to Mayfair and shopping (Selfridges), if that’s important to you.
-Hyatt Churchill feels a tab bit more “international Hyatt luxe” feel if that’s a thing- slightly more elevated overall. Hyatt also has a club lounge which is a convenient feature if that’s important to you.
- GSY rooms win IMO, while the rooms at Hyatt are very comfortable the bathrooms are tiny and very inefficient (can barely turn around in them). Perhaps Hyatt rooms are consistently larger overall, so if booking a standard only category you may end up with a larger room at Hyatt.
- Breakfast was nice at both properties, the buffet was more extensive at Hyatt
- GSY is newer overall
Hope this help everyone make their own decision. I would definitely return to GSY again- and for me personally I’d choose it over Hyatt if I were traveling with a companion.
