I booked a cancelable AAA CAA hot deals rate in 2023 for a hotel around Los Angeles (stay was May 2024) and it got changed on their system to a nonrefundable rate. I had to file support requests and send in my original confirmation to get it cancelled. Luckily they never charged my CC otherwise would be yet another annoyance.

To the senior rate point above, a support agent said as long as someone in your party is a senior you can book the rate even if the booker is not.
