Not to misappropriate the Thompson thread too much, but I actually just replied to a feedback request email from the HR's managing director about this. My past few stays I've been given a east/north facing room as my Globalist upgrade, which is obviously inferior to a west/south facing room. Especially if they're going to stick me on the 42nd floor with a long and stop-filled elevator ride, I'd like a good view. If it's a view of Kirkland, I'd rather be on a low floor so I can at least get in/out faster.
