If WoH's loyalty division is worth its salt, they don't see it that way. The less breakage, the better. They want to get people on the hamster wheel. Engaged WoH members are more profitable as they spend more per room and night than others.
I might otherwise agree with you - certainly about having more engaged WoH members - but clearly Hyatt has designed the 6-month expiry on Free Night Awards - as well as a broad "no extensions" policy - to ensure that there is indeed breakage in the system. And that's for people staying 30+ nights per year...
