Have top tier status at Hyatt and Hilton and points to use at IHG.
I stayed at both Umana LXR and here, 2 nights each, last month in July (Diamond and Globalist statuses). In terms of service, Alila is a little better and feels a little more luxurious when they come out to help with the luggage. At Umana, only one woman was at the front area, so my husband took out all the luggage from the car himself. Not something you would expect from a high-end luxury resort.
Room though, Umana hands down wins. Everything is automatic at Umana (lights are all labeled and more high-tech) and the Villa comes with TWO toilets, while Alila only has one. Alila is more dated throughout the villa. The size is bigger at Umana AND comes with a private hot tub plus the pool while Alila only has the pool. The pool at Umana felt slightly bigger too.
Ordering in room dining at both places, Umana wins in terms of service & presentation. There's a dining room area and dining table so Umana would set up everything very nicely. At Alila, there's not much interior space so the only spot is a small circle coffee table and they just leave the tray there.
Breakfast at Umana has both buffet and a la carte menu, while Alila is just the a la carte menu. The dishes are bigger at Umana, while Alila were smaller plates. Both breakfasts were good though. The view at Alila for breakfast is beautiful though, as faces the ocean. While Umana is inside the restaurant and does not have much of a view.
Alila has more noise than Umana as there are weddings held and closer to other neighbor resorts. We heard fireworks going off at Alila till late in the night and we would hear wedding related talking throughout the day when we are out in the private pool. Umana was completely quiet and it was super peaceful.
For us, we went with our daughter, and Umana has a complimentary kid's club, while Alila has no kids club.
Alila did NOT upgrade us and we were in the base room on the first level. Pretty disappointing as I had asked my concierge to help request a higher level if possible (and there was availability). Meanwhile, Umana automatically upgraded us to the partial ocean view room without us asking. Very appreciative of that.
Overall, we would pick Umana for our situation and would go back there.
