Stopped by the SF store today to pick up a GC for the last time since they're going appointment only later this month. The lady there came up to me saying that I needed the physical card (assuming she meant not Apple Pay) and asked whether it was my card, saying it can't be a spouse's card, my father's card, etc... she didn't even ask how much I wanted on the card and rang me up, but i didn't have an issue since I had the physical card with me. Mission successful for the last time I suppose.
Today, Tuesday August 27, 2024, I went to the Saks San Francisco location to buy a $50 gift card using my Amex Platinum.
I understood that starting on 08/28/2024 that they were going to an appointment based shopping experience. I checked their website and it appears that they made the transition a day earlier. I called them up and the person who answered confirmed that they had already gone to a reservration system but since I oniy wanted a gift card that I could tell the door person that and that I should be accommodated.
I showed up today at about 1 PM and sure enough, the doorman asked me if I had an appointment. I said no but that I had called about getting a gift card and he let me in and told me to see the concierge who would get someone to help me.
I went in and when the concierge greeted me, I told him that I needed to buy a gift card. He took care of me and I was on my way in just a few minutes.
