I have sympathy with the OP: sometimes what seems, on the face of it, to be a great idea, leads to a great deal of undesirable and unforeseen logistics hassle.
Not to mention that I can imagine that having a 12yo in tow is going to have a dramatic effect on the dynamics of the getaway!
That part's not a problem, we found the section on the BA website with the parental permission form needed which my brother and sister-in-law can sign. Plus he shares a surname with my parents/his grandparents (and indeed my maiden name which is still the one on my BA account) which I'm sure makes things less likely to be questioned.
