Called back and different agent looked at it and said it will be cancelled but it may take a day or so to be updated. I booked on a Z fare and the next flight was only an hour or so later. Problem was that there was no Z availability and he couldn't override it.
To be fair, most airlines don't usually rebook until it is officially canceled. It could be earmarked for cancelation and agent may know it but until it's officially canceled, most phone agents wouldn't touch that just yet.
