Hi all
Having
just this morning agreed and booked a trip for 4 adults (me, my husband and my parents) for a weekend at the German Christmas markets, I have been asked to see if we could also take my 12 year old nephew as apparently he would absolutely love this.
The four of us adults were already BAEC members all in one household account - of which I am nominally head - so booking us four as RFS from our big pot of Avios was easy and cheap. My nephew is not (yet) a BAEC member.
Husband and I are both Gold, my parents are either Blue or Bronze. Notwithstanding that this would scupper being able to use any lounges as we wouldn't be able to guest a third person in anywhere (and no I'm not putting him alone in CE) I'm willing to consider the idea if feasible.
The issues seem to be as follows and I am wondering if these can be overcome:
- I can't directly book a flight (whether cash or Avios) for just a 12 year old as it wants an adult to be on the booking. Could I ring the Gold line and ask them to make him a separate booking, and get them linked via TCP to solve this aspect?
- I have checked and RFS seats are still available on the same flights as the rest of the party. In order to book him one of those, would the process be for me to first create a BAEC account for my nephew under our household account before trying the above? Is there a guide on how to do that for a child - as I see if I want to add a new member it wants an email address etc and I have no idea if he has one... Can it be mine? Or a new one I set up for this that I control? Will it matter that he isn't my child?
- Would that then "unlock" RFS for him as part of an active household account, or does the condition that the account needs to have previously earned at least 1 Avios stop that - ie is that requirement for each member separately including children?
- I am going to assume it would be a bad idea for me to cancel our existing booking, and try again from scratch with all five people, because there is no guarantee the existing 4 RFS we have purchased would be released back into inventory.
- Failing everything else I could ask the Gold line how much for a cash booking for him... Will they charge an admin fee on top for making the separate booking by phone, as I will have to factor that in to the proposal to his parents?
Thanks for any insight - my experience of travelling with children is absolutely zero!
