When hotels take deposits at the time of booking, it can be easy to forget that there's been a deposit when cancelling or to forget to verify that the deposit was credited back to the form of payment.
Even more interesting when the deposit is in a foreign currency. Could end up losing (or gaining) money due to currency fluctuations between the time of booking and time of cancellation.
