Hol up.

You need to get somewhere, or your employer needs to get you somewhere for their convenience? And then has a responsibility to get you home with some reasonable comfort?

I might refuse to fly out if flying back to get to my own wedding was at risk, but if your employer who is footing the bill wants to self-insure and roll the dice or buy refundable, that is a question for them and an exception to the policy for them. But so far as I'm concerned, I'll take 3 all-expense expense days out in the wherever before either AC is flying again, or an alternative can be arranged.

If its business travel, I'd not accept being out a dime, or I'd be updating my LinkedIn status.
