It depends on the person of course, but for me being able to qualify on spend is an advantage. I can get to Plat with 2-3 week long stays at Fairmont in Canada, and Accor Plat does provide some significant benefits in many situations.

I have Marriott Gold and Hilton Gold from credit card, and I tend to stay in Marriott properties when the Fairmont and the Accor equivalents aren't available. I do like that in many APAC cities there are many high calibre Marriott properties in different locations and with different styles, and Accor can't compete with that.
