I've been using AAA rate for 20+ years. Only saw the AAA prepay version show up in the last few months. It is not clearly marked. It is listed as AAA CAA Hot Deals. You have to read the fine print to see it is a prepay rate with a deposit required. In the past, it was a cancellable rate.
For one data point for Philly Marriott Old City 9/10-13/24: AAA prepay is $223/night, AAA cancellable is $237/night, and regular prepay is $245/night. So, this would be a boundary case where AAA prepay rate is better if you want a prepaid rate. The $14 delta per night for traditional AAA vs. prepay AAA is worth it to me to have flexibility. Anyway, my beef isn't that the rate is offered, it is that it isn't clearly listed as a prepaid rate . I know some folks like prepaid rates and that is fine.
Furthermore, I would prefer to see all prepaid rates under the Prepay and Save tab. Standard Rates and Special Rates tabs should all be cancellable rates. I.e. don't try to sneak in prepiad rates on unsuspecting folks... YMMV...
